MOPE: ARTIST SHOWCASE & INTERVIEW

FULL INTERVIEW BELOW

Hailing from Florida and now based in Brooklyn, I had the privilege of sitting down with Robert Norris—the creative force behind Mope. More than just a solo project, Mope is a dynamic musical endeavor, where Norris collaborates with a rotating cast of musicians to craft songs that are as passionate as they are eclectic, drawing inspiration from decades of genre-blending influences.

As the primary songwriter, Norris channels his personal history and lived experiences into his music, using songwriting as a means of reflection and storytelling. Despite the ever-changing lineup of collaborators, he consistently weaves together cohesive, emotionally resonant bodies of work. His latest EP, After, is a testament to his evolution as an artist—showcasing both his ability to merge diverse sonic elements and his knack for creating music that’s not only compelling but downright addictive.

With its experimental yet effortlessly listenable sound, Mope is an exciting and refreshing presence in the indie scene. Norris has a rare ability to fuse seemingly disparate musical ideas into seamless compositions, avoiding jarring contrasts while embracing innovation.
